I have been living in this beautiful province of British Columbia for 9 years now, and let me tell you, I have no plans of ever leaving. BC truly has it all - mountains, lakes, beaches, rivers, parks, and so much more. There are endless activities to do here, especially in Vancouver where I call home. Even after 9 years, I haven't even finish exploring of all the amazing places that Vancouver has to offer. If you're planning a trip to Vancouver or any nearby cities, I've got a list of must-visit spots that I absolutely love. Keep in mind that depending on the season you visit, there are different activities to enjoy. And a little heads up - Vancouver is known as "Raincouver" by us locals, as it tends to rain a lot in spring, fall, and winter. But don't worry, summer is the exception with clear skies from mid-June to mid-September.
Mountains:
-
Grouse Mountain: You can take the Gondola up to Grouse Mountain, but it can be a bit pricey. Alternatively, If you're up for a challenge, you can hike up during the summer months. Just a heads up, this hike is no joke - it's 2.5 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 800 meters. Make sure to bring plenty of water and be ready to take lots of steps. On average, it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to complete the hike, but it could take longer if you're taking it slow and stopping for breaks. Personally, I wouldn't do this hike again, but the views of nature are absolutely stunning.
-
Cypress Mountain: If you're into skiing or snowboarding, Cypress Mountain is the place to be. There's a ski resort where you can pay to snowboard or skiing, and there's even a designated area for kids to practice their skills.
-
Burnaby Mountain: Just 20 minutes east of Vancouver, Burnaby Mountain offers breathtaking views, especially at sunset. There are picnic areas, play areas, and trails to explore. Plus, there's an event hall venue where you can host your next wedding or party.
Lakes:
-
British Columbia is home to a plenty of stunning lakes, but if you're looking to take swim, I highly recommend checking out Cultus Lake, Harrison Lake, and White Pine Beach. For those lakes where swimming isn't an option, Burnaby Lake, Lafarge Lake, Mill Lake, and Deer Lake Park are great spots for a walk.
-
Joffrey Lake is a hidden gem that's a four-hour drive from Vancouver. It's a bit hard to get there, with a challenging five-hour hike to see all three lakes. My family and I took our time and spent a total of eight hours on the trail, but the breathtaking views were well worth it. Just a heads up - you'll need to reserve online to access the park, but it's totally free!
